AddisMapTransit v0.3.0 Update Released

Recently, we at AddisMapTransit were thrilled to announce the release of our latest version of the AddisMapTransit App – version 0.3.0. This update brings with it a host of new features and improvements that are aimed at enhancing the overall user experience.

One of the major updates included in this release is the addition of more routes to the app. This will enable users to have a wider range of options for their daily commute, making it easier for them to plan their routes. Along with this, we have also made significant improvements to the user interface of the app, making it more intuitive and user-friendly.

Another key feature included in this update is the ability for users to save their favorite routes. This feature allows users to quickly access the routes they use most frequently, without having to go through the process of searching for them again. Additionally, we have also made it possible for users to plan routes with additional intermediate stops/stations, giving them even more flexibility when it comes to planning their daily commutes.

We are also proud to announce that we have replaced Google’s Geo-coder service with our own tile server (https://Africa.Tiles.OpenPlaceGuide.org) and geo-coding based on OpenStreetMap and MapTiler. This has enabled us to make the app fully based on FOSS and removed any vendor lock-ins or commercial feature dependencies making the app fully open-source and free.

Furthermore, we have also launched a beta version of our Trip Planner app for the web, which is built using React-Reduct. This app allows users to easily access the list of routes with their associated stops/stations, making it even easier for them to plan their daily commutes even without their mobile phones.

All of these improvements have been made possible thanks to the DT4A Innovation Challenge grant that we secured in June 2022. We are constantly working on developing new features and enhancements to improve the user experience and make daily commutes more convenient for our users. So, stay tuned as we will be announcing each update in the months to come.
